With VanaFest fast approaching I thought it would be fun to throw my hat into the ring and make some predictions about what news, and announcements will be forthcoming out of Japan next week. Now, I would like to remind everyone, that this is just wild speculation on my part and by no means am I limiting my creativity, in fact, I think it would be more fun to say the most outrageous ideas just for a good laugh, but on the other hand, I would also like for my real predictions to be right. Who wouldn't, right? Thus I have decided to have two categories, one for what I think, and another for what I just wanted to post for fun. So on to my VanaFest 2010 predictions!!! Regarding Final Fantasy XI (Think) - Square-Enix will keep trying to prove that FFXI will continue after XIV launches by promising more add on content as well as preview more to come with the Wings of the Goddess expansion.
- Once more it will be a series of three add on packs that will be released over the year for $10 each.
- New job updates for Black Mage and Bard will be forth coming this year, adding new spells, traits and abilities for those two jobs.
- Square-Enix will announce a cross promotion between FFXI and FFXIV where users can play both games for a single price (this depends on if they announce FFXIV pricing)
Regarding Final Fantasy XI (Fun)
What to do, what to do, what to do? Is that really the question we ask ourselves around lent, or is it more, what not to do? Now given that I believe that one's Lenten promises should be from the heart I feel that I'm going to share mine with the world, the site, and my friends. This is nothing new, because the question always comes up this time of year, "what did you give up?". Asides from all the increased marketing of fish products from Long John Silver's, and Red Lobster, and the sign of ashes on the foreheads of Catholics who attended Ash Wednesday Mass or service, Ash Wednesday is a chance to start over, to make new promises (think new year's resolutions that you don't want to break) to reform, repent, and to renew. We often get caught up in the act of giving things up, and focus on the act itself rather than the power of suffering itself. When I speak of the power of suffering I am referring to not just giving something up, but giving it up so that God can use it. For example, I want to give something up and ask God to use this act as a way of helping the poor, etc. This is powerful, and something I often forget to do myself.
Wired.com's gaming blog Game|Life did a piece the other day talking about the 15 most influential games of the decade talking about games from the year 2000 to 2009. You can see the article here. And it got me thinking about just how fast time goes, after all, it was just this week that I was playing the "new Super Mario Brothers Wii" game with my family over the Christmas holiday and remembering the just how great the old games where. But when looking at this article and at the years the games came out I remembered just how old I was and what I was doing at that time and where I am today, and just how much time as passed and I was taken back, and a little caught off guard. So I'm going to break down the list of some of the games I enjoyed on Wired's list of games.
This year for Christmas I decided to buy myself Final Fantasy Tactics off of the PlayStation Network for $10 and play though this game again. While I got pretty far the first time I played the game, I never beat it when it was released on the original PlayStation way back in the day (January 1998). Still, I was very fond of this game and the job system that it used to customize my characters in ways that I could only dream later in Final Fantasy XI. So now, having downloaded and installed the game on my PS3, I decided to transfer the game over to my PSP. More so, because I'll be traveling soon, and two I wanted to watch some TV and play the game at the same time, so this seemed like the best option. Transferring the game to the PSP was quick, easy, and painless and I was also able to transfer over my saved game to the PSP as well so I didn't lose any of my progress. After playing with the settings I was able to make the game Full Screen on the PSP and the game looks beautiful on that system. I then changed some of the controls to suite my liking and I was off.
Even though, this game is eleven years old here in 2009, it stands up as an amazing game, and one that sadly hasn't been replicated to the best of it's ability. Now, I've played all the games in the Tactics series that have been released after this game on the Gameboy Advance and the Nintendo DS, but they don't even come close to the sheer awesomeness of the original. The story, the game play, and the job system all are top notch.
Last year while I was working down in Fort Worth Texas, I would frequently walk past a car with a bumper sticker saying: "Don't blame me, I voted for Ron Paul". This would always make me smile and at the time I had no idea who Ron Paul was or what he believed.
Today I know more about Ron Paul and I figured I would share what I have found out about him and perhaps you can hear his arguments and come to your own opinion. I still haven't come to mine, but I have to say the man makes a great argument and he is from the great state of Texas so that gives him some points in my book. According to his web page on house.gov Ron Paul is a congressman who enjoys a reputation as the "premier advocate for liberty in politics" As a conservative he is the leading voice for a "limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies"
Our good friend Abby, and co-host of the What would Jesus Podcast here on ComicEarth was on Christopher Closeup recently. She writes on her blog: "My friend and fellow blogger (and podcaster), Tony Rossi, recently interviewed me on his show, Christopher Closeup. We talked about What Would Jesus Podcast?, youth ministry, women in the Church, my encounter with a satanist and a few other fun things. It was a lot of fun!
For those of you who haven't discovered FFXIVcore.com I would recomend that you check that site out for any information regarding Final Fantasy XIV, they have it all. But I know we have some Final Fantasy fans on our site, as well as MMO fans and I just had to repost these images as they are just too sweet to past up... Enjoy. :)
