Apparently my role on this blog is to keep you all posted on what I find fascinating in the Catholic world. Today is no different. :)

Did you know that Newt Gringrich became Catholic at the Easter Vigil Mass this Saturday at St. Joseph's in Washington, DC? It's true!

Click here to read the story.

An interesting side note, my best friend Amy received her sacraments at St. Joseph's in April of 2006. Cool, eh? Also, for those of you that were with us at the March for Life in 2008, we went to Sunday Mass there.

With that out of the way, I have been looking for more articles about this and have course come across a lot of tacky blogs about his conversion.  People are chastising him for his two divorces and that jazz, but isn't that the beauty of being a Christian? Christ forgives the contrite heart. And praise the Lord he does or we would all be scourged in the fires of hell.

For the record, I commend Newt Gringrich for taking a step closer to Christ through the sacraments. We could always use another hard core Catholic in Washington, even if he isn't technically work on the hill.

Thanks Monica smilies/smiley.gif

I'm glad I have so many Catholic friends who come to my website. While I never marketed ComicEarth as a catholic website, I am glad that we can all come and be excited about our faith on the site. smilies/smiley.gif

You are all truly great friends. smilies/smiley.gif

I love being Catholic too Brian. I love the peace that the Eucharist brings to us. God has been working on me since my ACTS retreat in October '07 and the joy that I feel in my heart has been so absolutely beautiful. I'm slowly starting to see the change in myself and my life and it's just wonderful!
THANK YOU Brain for ComicEarth and the ability to share our Catholic faith!!

That would be crazy if GWB became Catholic! I know Condoleeza Rice is Catholic. Felice saw her at the National Shrine in DC on Easter a few years ago.

I agree Abby, and for those who want to cast stones, it comes down to the fact that we are all sinners, and I'll pray for him and pray that his passion for Jesus grows now that he has come home to the Church. smilies/smiley.gif

Gingrich was on Msgr. Lisante's radio show last year before he announced his conversion. He sounded sincere in his religious beliefs.

My Dad told me about this... He also said that it is rumored that George W. Bush is on his way to becoming Catholic. Wow, talk about crazy if that happens... smilies/smiley.gif
