In my blogs on ComicEarth, I am going to try and keep them more lighthearted than my other blog -- I can get pretty intense over there.   With that statement out of the way, I have to talk about swimsuits. I'm sure you boys are thrilled. However, your input is most needed on this topic.

This morning, I was listening to Jessica Rey, former White Power Ranger, talk about defending chastity and morality. It was an interview with my friend Tony Rossi from The Christophers (who is now a ComicEarth member) and he always does such a great job asking questions and getting to the heart of the topic. This go round was not any different.

Jessica Rey is a model, actress, wife, swimsuit designer, chastity advocate and one incredible Catholic woman. After a discussion with a priest about  bikinis, she decided it was time to create  a modest swimsuit line that was flattering, womanly, respectful and not frumpy. The inspiration for her swimsuits is none other than one of the most elegant women from the 1950s, Audrey Hepburn.

Back in the 1950s, I know my grandma didn't prance around in a skimpy bikini. So, why do we, the women of the 2000s, do it?  Guys, I know bikins are sexy (at least on some girls), but is that really what you want to see? It's like wearing bras and panties!

Now, I am guilty of wearing some pretty immodest things, but Jessica's insights really  made me think (especially with swimsuit season just around the corner).

Check out Rey Swimwear and tell me what you think.

Well said, Brian! You know, Juli just said the same thing to me this morning. We are in need of men, real men. Thanks for being one of those men in my life, Brian. smilies/wink.gif

I have a lot of my own theories about the crisis in manhood and they all have go back to contraception and a lack of respect for women. Boys learn from their fathers, and if their father never learned what example does the child have? (Other then Christ, that is)

I would say that the Crisis of "manhood" is that we have too many boys and not enough men. Brought on by culture and many other factors. smilies/cry.gif

I could freelance from Texas! smilies/wink.gif

Let's see, I think the "crisis in manhood" is indeed everywhere and there is also a "crisis in womanhood", too. It's the culture of death we live in that tears us all apart. However, I have found in working with the young adults and our high school kids that in Texas, we have more than just a few good men. My guess would be the fact that we live in the "Bible Belt" and our Diocese is really great about fostering the call men of God have in this world.

Just the other night, I was at a Vocations discernment and we had six girls and about 20 men. I've heard the number of men is increasing, while the number of women is decreasing. And that has a lot to do with the caliber of our priest in this diocese and their dedication to discussing this Vocation to the priesthood. Interesting, isn't it?

Thanks for the extra PR, Abigail! The Christophers should hire you.smilies/cheesy.gif

Now here's another question. Off air, Jessica - on the topic of "a crisis in manhood" - said she was arranging some kind of Catholic event in L.A. 97 women signed up but only 3 guys. Now from a guy's perspective, those are great odds! But I was wondering if the lack of men signed up was a Los Angeles phenomenon or does Texas have the same problem?

And Jules, I added the Power Rangers reference just for you! I know you were a fan.

I totally agree with you on the swimsuit situation. Mindy and I were walking around through Target and couldn't believe how skimpy everything was. Yikes!

Go go power rangers!

Thank goodness for people focused on modesty. I went with Sydney for her to look for a swimsuit for aqua jogging, and they are all so skimpy. And usually unflattering. Thanks for sharing Abby!

Where can I find her site?smilies/smiley.gif
